About Your First Dental Visit to Charles Town Smiles
What to Expect at Your First Visit?
Charles Town Smiles is proud to have been providing compassionate and comprehensive dental services to families in Charles Town, WV since 1986. During that time, we have become one of the top dental providers in the area. No matter what dental service you’re looking for, our team of knowledgeable and highly trained professionals will provide you with the best quality service – whether it be cosmetic dentistry, general dentistry, or emergency dentistry. When you come for your first visit, we will establish care with our team at Charles Town Smiles. You can expect to meet our team and get a cleaning and checkup and if needed, then we’ll create a treatment plan.
Meeting Your Doctor
The first step during your first visit will be to meet your doctor. Your doctor will be one of our two highly talented and dedicated doctors; Nadia Armentrout DDS, FAGD, or Christopher Salas DDS, FICOI. Our team of knowledgeable and friendly staff will also be there during your first appointment helping you to check in, complete your comprehensive oral exam, and assist with other parts of the first visit.
Your doctor will then conduct a complete exam of your oral health and will work with you to formulate a plan to address your immediate dental needs as well as your long-term oral health goals. We highly recommend confiding in us and letting us know your expectations from this first appointment. If you are anxious about your first visit, let us know. Your comfort is important to us. We want to make sure that the appointment goes as well as possible and that you get your needs met.
Exam and Consultation
During your first visit, your doctor at Charles Town Smiles will perform a comprehensive dental exam and consultation to better understand you and your oral health. This exam will include:
- Discussing your health history
- Discussing any concerns you may have
- Taking and/or reviewing dental X-rays
- Screening for oral cancer
- Periodontal evaluation
- TMJ evaluation
Depending on your specific concerns or questions, we may suggest other exams that can help us diagnose and treat your concerns. During this exam and consultation, we will also determine which type of dental cleaning is the best option for your oral health needs. We may choose to treat other concerns before providing you with your cleaning.
The exam usually lasts about an hour as we assess different parts and concerns of your oral health. These exams and consultations are the perfect time to bring any of your concerns, questions and additional dental needs to your doctor.
Preventative Oral Hygiene Appointment
One of the best ways to treat oral health and hygiene is by preventing oral health issues. After your initial visit, our team at Charles Town Smiles will help you to know when your next preventative oral hygiene appointment should be. Normally, we recommend it every six months, but our team may want to see you sooner if you have oral health concerns or need additional services.
Keeping up with regular oral hygiene appointments is the best way to ensure your oral health and reduce the chance of more serious oral health needs. When you come to see us for your regular appointments, you can keep your smile bright and healthy. Our patients who prioritize keeping up with their preventative oral health have much less serious oral health issues than patients who let their oral health take a back seat.
